It was always discussed that the censor policy should be uniform from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. It was quite often discussed when the producers felt unhappy.

Now a typical situation has come up. ‘Charulatha’ made by Dwarakish Chitra in Kannada and Global One in Tamil a joint venture has two different certificates.

For the Kannada version Bangalore Regional Censor Board has given U/A certificate a few days ago. On Thursday at the regional censor Board in Chennai the film ‘Charulatha’ Tamil was given U certificate. Why this wide difference when the film is same. Of course there are two mother negatives for ‘Charulatha’ in Kannada and Tamil. The Tamil version is dubbed to Telugu and Kannada version dubbed to Malayalam. All the language films are releasing on 21st of September.

Priyamani plays the central role and an actress four language release is also something rare phenomenon. Priyamani is the only actress in the centenary of Indian cinema to take up the Siamese-Conjoined twin’s role in ‘Charulatha’.

The film by Pon Kumaran, a former associate of K Bhagyaraj and KS Ravikumar, has music by Sundar C Babu. The film will have Mollywood actor Skanda as the male lead along with Seetha, Saranya Ponvannan, Sudarshan and Arthi in pivotal roles. Deepika plays the conjoined sister with Priyamani with looks make over while Gagana and Chandana are child twins conjoined in the film.

The film is largely inspired from Thai horror thriller 'Alone' and is about two sisters who are born conjoint and is more of a revenge drama intertwined with a love story and having some interesting twists and turns till the very end. ayi janmavanu…
